A green burial, also called a natural burial, is just that, simple and natural. The goal of a Green burial is to maintain a burial site that is as natural as possible. To meet this natural goal, interment of the body is done in a bio-degradable casket, shroud, or a favorite blanket. The process eliminates unnatural elements, such as embalming fluid or concrete vaults.
In a natural environment, our bodies are reunited with the earth. All organisms on this earth, large and small, return to nature when they die and are recycled into new life through the soil or sea. The soil, and sea, contain microbes, nature's recyclers. Through the continuous activity of these microbes, the body is broken down into basic elements and recycled. In nature, there is no waste. Everything is recycled.
