About Green Burials, ECO-Friendly burials, and types of urns.
What is a green burial?
Green burial also called a natural burial, is just that, simple and natural. The goal of a Green burial is to maintain a burial site that is as natural as possible. To meet this natural goal, the interment of the body is done in a bio-degradable casket, shroud, or a favorite blanket. The process eliminates unnatural elements, such as embalming fluid or concrete vaults.
Why have a green burial? In a natural environment, our bodies are reunited with the earth. All organisms on this earth, large and small, return to nature when they die and are recycled into new life through the soil or sea. The soil, and sea, contain microbes, nature's recyclers. Through the continuous activity of these microbes, the body is broken down into basic elements and recycled. In nature, there is no waste. Everything is recycled.
Following your personal values and respect for mother nature, choosing a green or natural burial site for yourself, your family, and even your pets supports efforts of conservation and the growth of native vegetation (trees, shrubs, and wildflowers), which supports native wildlife, bringing birds and other wildlife to the area. A natural, or green, cemetery burial site does not waste water or use pesticides and herbicides, but rather, allows nature to take its course. In honor of your loved one, you are encouraged to plant native trees, shrubs, and flowers to promote habitat restoration. Supporting land preservation, a green cemetery grants a conservation easement for the burial site.
